Pat Ryan comes from an extensive history of working with well-regarded superintendents. He learned from top leaders in the industry that have driven many assistants towards success. Pat has learned to work as a team leader and has achieved in all his work endeavors. He has performed in many different areas of the golf course industry, both public and private, working with everything from general play to tournament play.
While growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, Pat ran his own lawn care business and interned at two sports complexes. He was very determined to become educated and learn as much as he could in the sports turf industry, preparing for his future studies. In 2005, Pat graduated from Kishwaukee with an Associates Degree of Applied Science in the area of Ornamental Horticulture / Sports Turf Management. After completing an internship at Bethpage State Park on Long Island, New York, he decided to continue his studies. That same summer he was accepted into the Plant and Soil Science program at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. In 2006, Pat earned his Bachelors of Science Degree from the College of Agricultural Science.
Prior to graduating, Pat had many opportunities to begin his career. He gratefully accepted an offer from the superintendent at Ivanhoe Club, a well renowned private course, where he started as an assistant. As his interests began to grow, so did his ambition. He thrived on gaining as much knowledge in the field as he could and became interested in major tournament preparation. Later that year, Pat was invited back to Bethpage State Park, this time as an assistant. He became responsible for the preparation leading to the 2009 US Open, held on Bethpage’s Black Course.
Pat Ryan remained at Bethpage Black until January 2010 when he followed Craig Currier to the exclusive, 27-hole Glen Oaks Club. While at Glen Oaks, Pat implemented many changes positively affecting staff moral and the golf course environment.
After 3 years, Pat was awarded his first Superintendent position at Sands Point Golf Club. Pat has elevated the club to be considered one of the best conditioned courses on Long Island. Pat also was responsible for the construction of a new practice facility designed by Keith Foster. Under Pat’s watchful eye Sands Point quickly has become one of the best courses in Nassau County.
